Motiv Venom Strike

Product Rating: (4.92)

ratings.date 3/6/2013
The Venom Strike is a deadly ball that hits with devastating power. Engineered to provide a strong arcing motion on light-medium oil, it blends the lane with ease.
At the heart of the Venom Strike is the proven Gear core from the original GT1. It provides a low RG for easy revs and a low differential to tame track flare.
The cover on the Venom Strike is very advanced for the category. We modified the Atomix shell that was utilized on the award-winning Sigma Tour and developed a specialized cover for the Venom Strike called Atomix Arc Solid Reactive. This shell sinks its fangs into the lane to read the friction and hit the pocket with bad intentions.
Review:
The Venom Strike has been a very good ball for me thus far. I have two venom strikes, ball one drilled 35X5X50 and ball two 75X4.5X40. Even though I have two differently drilled Venom Strike's that do roll different, I would still characterize this ball as a smooth strong arc rolling ball. For the price range of the Venom Strike, you get plenty of hook in the front part of the lane, even at the 3000 box surface. However, you still get a nice strong but smooth continuous motion in the backend. I love how agressive this ball is for the price point. Even though I would not suggest throwing it on heavy oil, the ball definitely needs some juice in the front part of the lane. I like throwing my Venom Strike on medium sport compliant patterns because it helps blend that pattern out and helps avoid over under. Comparing my two Venom Strike's. Ball one reads much earlier and much lazier in the back part of the lane, which I love when I am able to play straighter angles. Ball two gets through the front part of the lane much cleaner and is more angular at the break point. Ball two comes out of the bag as the lanes start to break down and start to move left. Ball two makes it easier to create more angle and not lose pin carry. This is another winner by MOTIV Bowling and you should visit your local pro shop and order yours today! Check out my Venom Strike ball reaction video. Sorry, but the video only contains ball one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38Gu74CdejY Get MOTIVated!!!!

The gear core is back MOTIVnation! Wrapped around a new formulation of the Atomix cover found in the successful Sigma Tour, we introduce the Venom Strike! The Venom Strike is orange, blue, and strikes a bunch. Out of the box at 3000, it is smooth as butter.
I have drilled two Venom Strikes so far. The first one was drilled 70 x 5” x 40, no weight hole needed. This ball is great for me with additional surface (1000) and with polish. This ball is very versatile and my benchmark ball. The second Venom Strike is drilled 40 x 4.25” x 40, with a big hole on my axis point and this ball reads the lane and is the smoothest on the backend. With additional surface on this ball, it is a great ball to start with.
In comparison to other bowling balls in the MOTIV line, the Venom Strike is intended to be smooth and your ideal weapon for light-medium oil. In respect to the other symmetrical balls MOTIV produces, the Venom Strike hooks earlier and is smoother down lane than the quadfire core balls (thrash, backdraft, qz2 blue). My Information: Ball Speed-15/16 mph, Rev Rate:285 average RPMS
Axis Rotation-45 degrees, Axis Tilt-15 degrees.
Ball Spec Information:Core-Gear Drive, Cover:Atomix Arc Solid Reactive
RG:2.48 15lbs, Diff:0.34/ 15lbs, Surface Tested:OOB sanded 3000 grit.
Color:Blue/Orange/Green/White
Ball Tested Drill Specs:50x30 @3" P3 X-Hole
Lanes Tested On:All types of synthetics & wood.
The Venom Strike cover and core combination creates more friction than the Sigma
Tour, but less than the Primal Scream.
The cover along with the low RG Gear Drive core gives the Venom more hook
throughout the entire lane than the Sigma Tour but less than the Scream.
I saw a very smooth rolling reaction from start to finish from the Venom
The ball starts up earlier than the Sigma Tour with better mid-lane bite.
The Venom clears the heads easy but turns up the revs at the mid-lanes,but makes
a nice controlled arcing move off the back end.I found very minimal
over-under on most house shots. Also the Venom plays great when the
lanes start to transition and you have some area to the right.
On the THS:The Venom allowed me to open up and play the lane with a larger
swing area.On the oilier house shots the Venom allowed me square up a little
more to the right.Playing this area gave me great reaction off the break point,
and a very nice roll to the pocket with good pin carry.
On very dry house shots:The Venom is way too strong for me on this shot,
I would use the Backdraft or Ascent Pearl on this shot.
On a modified TOC pattern, the Venom sanded to 2000 grit, worked great. It allowed
me to play the oil line without a over reaction on the back of the pattern.
I could move inside a little and use the core/cover combo to create the area
I needed. The smooth back end reaction helped me keep the ball in line
without worrying about any drastic bite off the friction.
On a 39' flatter pattern, the Venom worked for me but the cover
needed to be adjusted to 1000 grit for me to play the pattern as I needed, then
I could line up and stay within the oil line at 8-9 and get the ball to face
earlier and control the back end.The pin carry also increased.
Overall:This ball is a great first out of the bag ball on most house shots.
In my opinion the key for the Venom is find the right drilling and cover
adjustment. The Venom is very versatile and should fit most styles.

The Venom Strike is an awesome smooooth rolling ball that is very versatile. I drilled mine 85* x 5” x 45*. It’s extremely predictable roll makes it very effective in a wide variety of conditions. It fits right in the middle of my line-up in terms of overall hook. Under house conditions, it blends out the over/under conditions from left to right that is so commonly found.
Here is a video of me throwing the Venom Strike on a THS. In the video I compare it to the two other most recent MOTIV releases, the Primal Scream and 2 Cruel.

For Sport patterns, I like it on the fresh on Medium patterns because it blends the lane really well from front to back. Anyone who bowls on Sport shots know that you need to have a smooth predictable ball in order to keep yourself out of trouble, and the Venom Strike fills the role for me.
I find myself looking to the Venom Strike more and more as time goes on… I truly feel that if I were only allowed to bring one ball to a tournament or league, this would be my choice.

The new MOTIV Venom Strike features the Gear core which was used in the GT1. This core boasts a low RG (2.48) and medium-low differential (0.034). I have used this ball on several short patterns with great success. Particularly Kegel Broadway and PBA Cheetah/Viper. This ball is a very similar motion to the Thrash, but it reads the lane a touch earlier. I found that the Thrash was rather easy to throw through the breakpoint because of the higher RG (2.54) Quadfire core. That problem has been negated with the low RG core. It really blends the backend out for me and makes the transition much easier to follow. The Venom will struggle when attempting to move deeper on the lane and chase the oil. It does not have enough differential to kick the corners out consistently from inside angles. The coverstock on the Venom is a modified version of Atomix and I do believe that it can't tolerate a lot of volume.
I think heavy handed players will really come to appreciate this release from MOTIV as it blends the lane out front to back and side to side exceptionally well. Additonally, if you're a speed dominant bowler or just prefer to stand on top of the pattern longer and keep your angles shut down, then you'll really like what the Venom has to offer. - Darren Andretta, MOTIVated/Vise Inserts Staff Member, www.motivbowling.com

Venom Strike
The Venom Strike is the latest release from Motiv. This ball provides a great midlane read with the continuous motion I have come to love and trust from Motiv bowling balls. For me this release provides a motion similar to the Thrash but much stronger in the oil pattern. The roll on this one is incredible which is definitely a direction all the new releases are heading, this provides a strong controlled arc with incredible carrying power on mid to heavy oil patterns. The beauty is that it also allow me to get deeper in the oil pattern and still get consistent , repeatable reaction. My pin down version revs up a bit earlier and provides a good start up ball on the fresh with predictable motion while the pin up version provide an easy transition for me to get the ball down the lane throughout an 8 game block without sacrificing any hitting power or making a drastic move. The mid range price point makes this ball a must have for all bowlers. Oh and the logo glows in the dark and under back light too!!!Can you say BONUS!

Lane Condition:
Modified Kegel Stone Street on Brunswick ProLane
Layout:
4 7/8 x 4 7/8
75 x 4 7/8 x 30
Finesse with power. That is what I use to describe the Motiv Venom Strike. The modified Atomix shell gets through the heads with ease but still attains great mid lane traction on medium to light oil conditions. The proven Gear core (2.48 RG, .034 Diff) enhances this reaction by facilitating a strong but controllable backend reaction. When the ball gets to the spot you can see a pronounced motion towards the pocket which continues as it drives through the deck with ease. I laid my Venom Strike out with a higher pin to help it conserve some energy for a slightly more angular attack on the backend. The combination of this layout, with the natural smoothness of ball itself, has given me a great control ball when the lanes start to break down and I am forced left. At the beginning of the day I am given a very clean ball with a strong, but controllable, motion at the spot. As the games progress I find that I can move left, increasing my launch angle quite a bit, and still retain energy downlane and power through the pins. This gives me a look that is very similar to the Thrash but weaker overall, something that I am very excited to have. If you’re looking for a ball that will give you great predictability for medium to lighter oil conditions, the Motiv Venom Strike is the ball to have.

Venom Strike
You asked, and we delivered. The Gear core from the GT1 is back and better than ever. Wrapped in the new Atomix Arc Solid Reactive, the cover allows the Venom Strike to be very smooth through the front part of the lane and then really move off of the breakpoint. The cover on the Venom Strike is very advanced for the category. We modified the Atomix shell that was utilized on the award-winning Sigma Tour. But don’t let the Arc in the name fool you. This ball is a beast off of the spot. This ball is several boards stronger than the original GT1, and with the new cover the ball is very versatile on a variety of patterns and surfaces. I have drilled two, one pin up and one pin down. The Pin up layout is 50x4x30, and the other is 60x4.25x20 with a weight hole on the PAP. I have liked this ball on house shot and also rolls really well on shorter patterns such as cheetah and viper. I have also been able to play a little straighter on higher volume patterns. With a revised Sigma Cover and the Gear core, this ball is rapidly becoming the first ball out of my bag.

Venom Strike by MOTIV. I used dual angle layout of 65x3.75x35. Box surface 3000 grit sanded thrown on THS 41' Anvilane med-heavy oil. Speed/Rev matched 30/40 rotation w/ roughly 10 tilt. Another eye catcher from MOTIV! The Venom Strike from MOTIV features the GEAR core and the new Atomix Arc Solid Reactive cover which is a variation of the cover MOTIV has used on their highly successful Sigma line. I really like the way this ball rolls and it reminds me a lot of my Sigma Hybrid. Consistent reaction and easy to read what the lanes are giving you. I feel like a broken record anymore by saying this but the midlane read is so well with this ball (and all MOTIV balls really) that it makes this such a versatile piece of equipment. On a fresh THS with med/heavy oil I play more direct then make small adjustments left as the lanes start to break down. I consider the overall motion smooth on fresh and on medium to medium/dry this ball will give you a more defined arc in the backend motion especially if you alter the surface some. The Venom Strike will be a very versatile ball for med to high rev players looking for a strong but consistent roll and a ball that will “blend” the oil pattern especially on your THS. Lower rev players will want to adjust surface down on fresh heavy oil and probably like this ball more for transition/carry down stages and low to med oil volumes.

The Motiv Venom Strike!! A very affordable, efficient, and reliable addition to the Motiv family of balls, with the orange and blue look with the infamous Motiv logo and snake head with fangs coming at you, this balls is venomous for the pins. With the modified coverstock the Motiv Sigma Tour, and gear core used in the previous GT-1 bowling ball, this core is very versitile, and very easy to control, a very simple core, Motiv went back the the symetrical core choice. This ball out of the box was actually fairly early for me, but with polish and some slight surface altering, made this ball a good amount longer, but very smooth and crisp. This ball as a nice continuation to it as well, helping to fight off those corners and keep the ball strong and energized through the pins. Love this addition to line of Motiv products, I have actually been able to use this ball on most conditions I have bowled on, I have to say, loving it! Can't wait to use it again. This is a mid-low range priced bowling ball, so it is very affordable for any bowlers budget, give it a try, you will have no regrets.

Venom Strike – Layout 4 ½ X 4
MOTIV’s current goal is to release bowling balls that will be able to provide bowlers with an arsenal of equipment to combat all conditions.
Description: The Venom Strike is going to be an addition to the lower mid-price range, but with much higher expectations. The coverstock on the Venom Strike is a modified version from the popular Sigma Tour and has been renamed the Atomix Arc Solid Reactive. This shell is known being dependable and versatile. For the core, MOTIV brought back the highly requested Gear Core from the GT1. The Gear Core provides easy revs and a low flare potential for down lane control.
Reaction: In my opinion the Venom Strike is stronger than advertised, but only up front and in the mid-lane, it is still very tame and smooth when going into the roll phase. For me, this filled in a gap where a lot of high performance and similar lower RG equipment have more backend and higher flare potential. At the box finish (3000 grit sanded) I found that it allowed me to square up or play more down and in on a 41’ house shot. After adding polish it did give me more motion in the backend but also forced me to just move my feet a few boards right. I was happy to see the polish didn’t force me to play more left to right or make the break point uncontrollable. I can see this ball being a stud on conditions where you see a more wet/dry condition as it will blend the pattern very well!
Comparisons: When a ball such as the Sigma Hybrid is too early, but you don’t want to get away from the smooth and predictable backend motion the Venom Strike is a winner. This is an ideal ball for those who struggle in transition and feel that whenever they ball down they lose the pocket because of too much downlane hook. I found that when a ball such as the Thrash is too long and isn’t starting up soon enough the Venom Strike was a great matchup. Although the Thrash provided more backend motion, the overall hook potential went to the Venom Strike. The Venom Strike provides a strong arcing motion that is ideal for control on tougher conditions, even more so than the Thrash. Depending on the surface you choose, the Venom Strike could fit into many different areas of your arsenal.
Summary: The Venom Strike is a ball that for the price a lot of people should invest. I believe depending on the layout and surface bowlers will be able to use this on everything but the heaviest or driest conditions. For those who haven’t yet tried a MOTIV piece this is a great one to try. It will provide a moderate hook potential and a lot of control down the lane!
