Storm’s latest Signature line ball features a 2000 Grit NEX Pearl cover wrapped around the Atomic AI Core. I drilled my Physix Blackout 4 x 4.5 x 2 and have thrown it for a few times and I’m quite impressed by it. For a big asymmetric pearl ball it really reminded me of a solid. It was very smooth and didn’t over react when I threw it into the dry too quick. The NEX cover allows it to still handle some oil so I can see this being an overall great ball for a wide range of bowlers and conditions. House shots to sport shots this ball is going to be a must have in the bag because it could be the first ball out of your bag fro the fresh or it could be the second or third ball out of your bag once the lanes start to transition. Compared to my X-Cell the Blackout is smoother and about 4/5 less overall hook. The X-Cell actually created a ton more angle down lane and the Physix Blackout is probably 2/3 feet sooner than the X-Cell.

This ball not only looks great, smells great, but rolls great. I drilled this ball to be a touch weaker than my Attention Star S2 and has been the perfect complement. Once my S2 starts to burn up I can switch to the PhysiX Blackout and not move a board. The Blackout gives me good length for a ball that is 2000 out of the box, and due to the surface, it reads the midlane and still packs a punch on the backend due to the pearl cover. This ball is a must have!!!

This time with AI! The Physix Blackout is a new pearl asym from Storm in the signature line. Spoiler alert: I love it! One of my favorite current line balls is the Vebo but there are times were it cant handle volume, especially when it’s mounded up in the middle. The PBO solves that problem! The motion is pretty similar but the cover is much stronger and can handle the oil. The sanded cover doesn’t bog down the reaction too much, so there’s plenty of backend. If you like Physix line, the Physix Blackout does the “Physix thing” and hooks and gets forward. But not too much, Physix forward, IYKYK. I think the Physix Blackout is my favorite Physix and I’ve already drilled another one.

The holiday season is here and so is the next Signature Series release – the new Physix Blackout. The new Blackout fits in between the 2 prior releases, the Virtual Energy and the Lighting Blackouts, and I am LOVING IT!!! With the Atomic Core, the ball is smoother and “gentler” in the mid lane and does not have the hard reaction in the backend like the VEB or the LB. The PB reads and reacts very smoothly for me, and I can use it on fresh and making small adjustments through the night in league and practice, I can stay with the ball longer than normal “fresh” condition balls I currently use, like the Sublime Focus and my favorite ball for the past year the Hustle X-ray. Where I need to jump out of these two balls in the middle of the matches or in tournament play when the fronts are a little used up, the strength of the Atomic Core and the NEX cover finished at 2000 grit, allows me more room to play with and able to stay with the stronger piece. I still like switching to the LB when they get really fried out, or where I bowl on older HPL where the front and middle panels are so beat up that anything with a more compressed core would start up sooner, the Physix Blackout gets down the lane but still provides stability and reliability. The Physix Blackout is starting to become my 2nd favorite ball this bowling season. This will replace 2 balls in my current league and tournament bags. This piece is good for Heavy-Medium Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin Up between the Fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. I threw this on a left over house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the front part of the lane, started In the midlane, with a smooth backend reaction. I compared this piece to the Lightning Blackout (Symmetric Piece). Lightning was 2-2 right and was sharper on the backend when it saw the friction. The PhysiX Blackout will be a good piece to start a block and then switch to the Lightning Blackout when the PhysiX Blackout starts too early. This piece will be good for all styles. layout: 4 1/2 x 3 x 2 Surface: 2000 Abralon with Power Edge Finish Rev Rate: 470 RPM Tilt: 13* The Infinite Physix has been one of my favorite league balls in the last few years so was pretty excited when this new Physix Blackout was announced! The Atomic Core has always matched up well to my game and with this AI version, I knew it would be great on the heavier tournament conditions and my current 44ft league pattern. Paired with the NEX Pearl coverstock with added nano-particles, the Physix Blackout can handle both the fresh and transition with ease. I chose to add Power Edge Finish on mine because of my success with the Infinite Physix with which I finished with Reacta Shine Polish. When I compared the two balls on my house pattern, I saw a lot of similar features. The Physix Blackout with its strong coverstock was stronger and a little smoother than I anticipated compared to the Infinite. The Power Edge finish got the ball through the front with ease and gave me ample continuation through the pins which is what I have always expected with the Physix line. Compared to the Infinite, I saw about 4 boards more of overall hook with the Blackout with very similar shape in the backend. When using it in league, I was able to use it on the fresh because it still gave me enough midlane traction and backend control you would need on the fresh. As the lanes transitioned, I really didn't have to move too much left with my feet to keep my striking going. The cleaner finish of the Power Edge got the ball through the front still with ease even with 6 other right-handed bowlers on the pair. Into game 3, I did start to see the strength of the core and cover combo which forced my feet about a zone further left. The control of the coverstock made me have to come around the side of the ball a little bit to get the corners out. What was great, was the ability to use it for the 3 games of league. Generally, for asymmetrical balls, I don't have that ability too often s it was certainly nice to see. I recommend this ball to anyone who liked the infinite physix but wants a little more teeth on it, a pearl ball that they can use on the fresh when dull or the conditions are right and with polish, can make it a transition ball off of an Ion Max. Medium to lower rev rates will also love this ball on a variety of lane conditions as it will be strong enough for heavy oil but not as early as a solid asymmetrical piece. Storm Physix Blackout Review Layout VLS-5x4x2 3/4 Surface-2000 Grit The Storm Physix Blackout uses the Atomic Core with AI Technology wrapped with the NEX Pearl coverstock. The Physix Blackout will be a great compliment to the high performance Storm lineup. The Physix Blackout will fit between the Ion Max and the Ion Pro with continuous ball motion. For me the Physix Blackout will be cleaner than the Ion Max with more backend but pick up more in the midlane than the Ion Pro. For those of you that had the Infinite Physix you will notice that the Physix Blackout will be stronger ball motion overall due to the stronger coverstock. The Virtual Energy Blackout will be a lot longer with a sharper backend but will not handle as much oil. I can definitely see having multiple Physix Blackout’s in my bag with different surface preps due to the versatility of the core and coverstock. The Storm Physix Blackout will be available December 13th!!!!!!

I drilled the new Storm Physix Blackout 5x4.5x2 using the vls layout system. The goal of this layout is to give me a bit more length, but still have the ball retain enough energy to get through the pins. Initial thoughts of this ball are Strong, smooth, and versatile. This physix blackout features NeX Pearl Cover paired with the Atomic Ai core. With NeX being on the cover, this ball wants to roll really early, even with it being a pearl. After throwing it for a few games I saw the 2000 grit box finish wear off a touch, which made the ball have more length, and retain more energy. In a tournament bag, this ball would for sure be one of the first 2 balls out of my bag. If your looking for a early yet clean shape, this is the ball for you! I highly recommend picking this ball up when you get the chance!

The NEX cover with it's Nano Technology provides strong mid-lane motion even in high volume oil patterns. The engine in the ball is the Atomic Core featuring Amplified Intertia (A.I.) Technology. The Atomic core has been a stalwart for continuous down-lane power. The combination gives you the earlier motion you need without sacrificing the power through the pins. I tested the Physix Blackout for the first time in league. First observation was a pretty obvious one. This ball hooks a lot. I had to move left from where I'd been throwing even the other strong balls and make sure I wasn't rolling it into the lane too early. Second observation was, man this thing keeps coming around. The lanes have been a bit tight lately and I've fallen into the habit of trying to help the ball more. The Physix Blackout neither needs or wants the help. My advice is point it right and let it eat. I also threw the ball a few days later on a drier lane. When recording my video reviews I often have difficulty securing a freshly oiled lane. The advantage is that if I opted not to try the ball through the transition on league night, I get an idea of where I would have ended up with it. No surprises that it took even more effort to clear the front of the lane, but I was really happy with how the ball kept going through the pins. I experimented a bit with rotating the ball a bit more and it really responded well. This isnt terribly common among balls this strong, many of them don't want to respond to tilt and rotation changes but the Physix Blackout was very responsive. I threw it head to head with the Ion Max and Attention Star S2 and found it fills the gap between the two perfectly. It gives you the best of both balls in fact. I think this ball is going to be a big hit. It's going to be that strong ball that you can match up with most any style. It will hook with the strongest balls, but doesn't get forward and start handing out flat tens the way many strong balls do when you've got to move left. Rev deficient bowlers who need the help with love this ball. The guys who already have power games and want that 'top of the bag' ball that keeps hooking through the transition will find this ball a staple for tournament play. A-1 First ball out.
