Additional product information:

After dominating the lanes at every level around the globe, we knew the follow-up had to be something special. It had to align with not only the original Attention Star, but it had to align with the rest of the Roto Grip product line as well.

In our first sequence of testing, we tried multiple coverstock materials to determine where the proper motion was to take place. It was in sequence two of testing that the eTrax PLUS hybrid cover out-shined the the others. It featured enough grip in the midlane without being too early, while providing plenty of recovery down lane like its predecessor. And that my star gazing friend is how the Attention Star S2 (Sequence 2) was born.

    Attention star s2

Posted by Adam Chase on Nov 25th 2024

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 4 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev rate: 470 Tilt:.13* The new Attention Star S2 is a release that has many bowlers excited for. The success of the original Attention Star pearl has a lot of anticipation for a stronger version. This S2 is just that. The Momentous EV AI core is brought back but is paired with the successful Etrax Plus Hybrid coverstock. This coverstock has more traction for heavier oil conditions while giving the same strong backend motion expected out of the Attention star line. On my 44ft typical house pattern, I saw a ball motion designed for the fresh and first transition. The strength of the core and coverstock combination gave me heavier mid lane read while reading the front part of the lane stronger than the attention star. The pin down drilling i have, gives this ball really good continuation and backend motion that I expected out of this ball. On the fresh, I was able to open up my angles more than a X-cell but gave me similar type of reaction. I was able to play the fresh around 15 at the arrows to around 7 at the break point. Missing right into the friction controlled the hook more than I expected but still had moments where it over read the pattern. Missing in the oil did what you probably would expect and read I'm the oil fairly well. It had no issues of under-reacting. As I moved into the middle part of the lane more during transition, I found the same strong overall reaction. The layout was slightly too smooth at time to continue through the pins for carry but I had no problem getting to the pocket from basically every where I tried to play. For me, this ball would be best playing semi straight angles while also being good in first transition on most environments. A pin up layout would give more flare and backend to move a lot deeper on the lane. I recommend this ball for those who have the attention star and want an earlier and more controllable version or those who want a ball for the fresh who have some difficulty with solid asymmetrical balls reading the lanes too early.

Roto Grip Attention Star S2 – WWRD 11/22/2024

Posted by Patrick Dombrowski on Nov 25th 2024

Cover: eTrax Plus Hybrid Core: Momentous AV + A.I. RG: 2.48 RG. Diff.: 0.049 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Roto Grip’s new Attention Star S2 is a Hybrid Asymmetrical piece that is good for Heavy-Medium Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. I threw this piece on a fresh house pattern. Out of box ball motion was clean through the fronts, started in the middle part of the lane with a smooth backend reaction. I compared this piece to Attention Star. Attention Star was similar to the S2. Attention Star was cleaner through the fronts, it didn’t start as early in the mids as the S2, and had a hockey stick motion on the backend. The S2 will be good to start with and then switch to the Attention Star when the S2 is starting too early in the mids. This piece is good for all types of styles. Attention Star S2 Review

Posted by Thomas Coco on Nov 24th 2024

Now that I have your attention, the original Attention Star was a star in the making around the world at every level when it was first released. It was only a matter of time until Roto Grip followed up with its successor, the Attention Star S2. With the eTrax Plus Hybrid Reactive coverstock, momentous AV + AI core from the original Attention Star, the S2 is Roto Grip's newest ball designed to be that all-purpose benchmark ball bowlers are looking for. I drilled mine at 50 x 4.5 x 35. I tested it on a 42ft league pattern at Fishkill bowl in Fishkill, NY, and was very impressed with the ball motion the S2 could create. I worked my angles playing the deep inside part of the lane, with the S2 having a solid 2000 grit finish for a hybrid, the ball read the fronts and midlane, checking up a little earlier than expected, but still finishes smoothly into the pocket for the down lane motion. The original attention star, in comparison, read the lane much later and didn't have that sharp backend as the S2 does, but still a smooth finish and went longer. This would be one of the best 1-2 punch you're looking for depending on what lane conditions you are bowling on. The S2 would also be considered as an alternative asymmetrical ball lined up below the X-Cell. I would highly recommend this ball for bowlers that had success with the original Attention Star, and for leagues/tournaments. Be sure to stop by your local pro shop and drill an S2 today! You won't be disappointed!! Thomas Coco (Storm staffer)

    Roto Grip Attention Star S2

Posted by Dannial Cohen on Nov 22nd 2024

Roto Grip Attention Star S2 Review Layout-VLS 5.25x3.75x1.75 Surface-2000 Dull The S2 uses the same core as the orginal Attention Star with AI Technology wrapped with the E-Trax Hybrid Coverstock. The S2 will be a great option to handle heavy oil with a continous motion on the backend. Sometimes the big heavy oil balls get foward on the backend while the S2 will be more continous. Once the lane transitions and you need more length and backend you will be able to go to the OG Attention Star. The Attention Star's will be a great 1-2 punch on heavy oil. The X-Cell will be earlier than the S2 but more smooth motion on the backend. The Attention Star S2 will be available November 22nd!!!!!!

Roto Grip Attention Star S2 review by Lonnie Pemberton

The new Attention Star S2 (Sequence 2) again features the powerful Momentous™ AV + core surrounded by Amplified Inertia technology. They wrapped it in a sanded Etrax Plus Hybrid cover. This cover creates greater footprint earlier than the original while still providing great down-lane movement. I tested the S2 the first time in league. Anticipating the need for more oil I wanted to give it the first try out when I was sure I'd have a fresh condition. It only took a couple balls to realize that this had a very unique motion from the Attention Star. The S2 has a very noticeable mid-lane read and great continuation. It reminded me a lot of the Eternity Pi in the midlane but with more motion in the back-end of the lane. This allowed me to stay in the ball longer. In terms of overall hook it is a small step down from the X-Cell but in my opinion it stays in play much longer. I did also bowl a practice session on a lane which had some open play and was pleasantly surprised to observe that the S2 had no problem finishing on a lane with more carry-down. The ability to trust this ball to start hooking in the middle of the lane takes a lot of the guesswork out of what it will do in the backend. This ball makes a great alternative to some of the more aggressive Assyms that want to get a bit forward as soon and the fronts start to hook. It's also better suited as a first ball out in oil for people who have slower ball speeds. Attention Star S2 Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson

Posted by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson on Nov 21st 2024

Roto Grip Attention Star S2 Coverstock: 2000 grit eTrax™ PLUS Hybrid Reactive Core: Momentous™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Berry/Silver/Black Aqua Review: Sequence 2 is here! The original Attention Star is one of our best balls of 2024 picks. It was heavily featured during the ladder half of the PBA tour season and the sequel is just as good in our opinion. We love asymmetrical hybrid covers from SPI. It has always been one of our favorite reactions on our house shot and many other centers in the Pacific Northwest and if you follow SPI releases you’ll know as of late they havn’t shown asymmetrical hybrids much love, only releasing the Magic Gem during the last several months. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is a great piece on multiple patterns. It blends the lane extremely well on the fresh and we actually can stay in this piece longer than we anticipated. The first couple weeks of league using this we didn’t even have to transition out of it which is kind of surprising as we normally lose pin carry or are forced too far left. We see this ball being the first or second out of your bag for both league and tournament players. I am sure you will be seeing a lot of this ball as the PBA looks to start its pre season play. Another great release from Roto Grip! Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson Roto Grip Pro Shop Staffers joel@parklanes.net kyle@parklanes.net dean@frontierfuncenter.net www.RotoGrip.com #SquadRG

    Attention Star Sequence Two

Posted by Michael Slatky on Nov 21st 2024

Roto Grip Attention Star Sequence 2 Coverstock: eTrax + Hybrid Reactive Finish: 2000 Grit 2000 Core: Momentous AV + A.I. (14 pd) RG: 2.53 Differential: 0.046 Int Diff: 0.014 Layout: 2 x 6 x 5 - 2LS Layout Extras: 3 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Attention Star Sequence Two features the Momentous Altered Variant + Amplified Inertia Core Technology. Basically what this means is Roto Grip has taken a core previously featured internationally and brought it to the states with a few upgrades. This ball pour is also quite stunning in its color combinations. The ball intent is to create a ball motion not readily seen in the SPI line of bowling balls. In comparison to my Roto Grip Attention Star and my Roto Grip X-Cell I believe this ball will be exceptional on longer and higher volume patterns. For me, the Attention Star is a bit quick and forward on THS so it found most of its use on sport patterned conditions. The X-Cell is a tough ball to overtake in my current arsenal. It's been my go to on patterned conditions and is good in league too. The S2 is a bit more rounded and will provide a good controlled and continuous reaction. Will it compliment the X-Cell over time? I can't say at the current time. I do like what I see from the S2 and look forward to evaluate further at upcoming SPI MatchMaker events as well. Also, I want to get the S2 on some higher volume patterns and see the range this ball has as transition occurs. For me, I really desire an option for sport and league patterns where control is the key, yet I want to have some asym options as a thumbless player. The Attention Star I did take some of the Reacta Gloss off and will try it with Power Edge. As for the S2, I will let some lane shine on the ball to get it through the fronts a bit easier. I feel the Attention Star S2 is going to see a lot of play like the Attention Star did on PBA tour last year. As noted, the cover comes out at 2000 Grit Abralon from the factory. I'm going to "create" some shine with water and a rag on the spinner. Be sure to grab an Attention Star Sequence Two (S2) today. It might just be the look you want when coming off of your big asym balls in the arsenal. Michael Slatky 900 Global Staff Member York, PA

Roto Grip Attention Star S2 Review

Posted by Tobias Myers on Nov 20th 2024

The Roto Grip Attention Star S2 is the newest release from Roto and comes with the eTrax Plus Hybrid Reactive, Momentous AV + A.I. Core, and 2000-grit Abralon. This ball is a hybrid version of the Attention Star and when I say that it is exactly that. It shapes like the Star but is a bit earlier and can handle more oil. This is a great second ball for this line. I compared the S2 to the original Star and as you expect, it is a ball up from the Star. It is just a ball up from the Star and when the S2 is hooking too much you can move into the Star. And same with the Star, when it is not quite enough you can switch to the S2. This is a home run from Roto and will be a great one two combo. Ball review link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZTCz6l-sMg&t=2s Tobias Myers #RotoGrip #SquadRG

    Attention Star s2

Posted by Blake Albers on Nov 18th 2024

I Drilled the New Roto Grip Attention Star S2 5x4x2 using the storm vls layout system. This layout allows the ball to blend out the lane nicely and allows me to open my angles using stronger equipment. The Attention Star s2 is the follow up to the widely regarded “Ball of the year: attention star. The s2 features the eTrax PLUS Hybrid cover stock paired with the Momentous AV Ai core. The s2 give you the same ball of the year motion, but a touch earlier. I compared this ball to the Ion Pro and had the s2 slotted a spot higher in a tournament bag due to the ball rolling a bit earlier than the ion pro. I personally have this ball as a ball 2 in a 6-ball tournament bag. This is a good step down from your Harsh Reality’s, Gems, Ion Max’s etc. I highly recommend picking one up on November 22nd!

    Ideal Ball For The Fresh

Posted by Joel Eyssen on Nov 18th 2024

As bowlers, when we start on fresh we are looking for a ball to give us a predictable motion so we can find out how much friction is to the right, how much oil is in the middle and how fast we are going to have to move. This BALL does ALL OF THAT! The Attention star was a great ball with the big core and weak cover it allowed the ball to be clean but very violent off the spot. But when you had a little bit too much volume the ball didnt look good. This improves on all of that. With the same core but an upgraded HYBRID version. This allows the ball to retain that cleanness, but with the solid additive, allows the ball to pick up in the mid lane and still be very continuous, not angular but continuous off the spot. Its a great ball to start on the fresh with and then ball down to the original attention star when this ball gets to early.
