    Summit Peak

Posted by Chase Valenzuela on Feb 8th 2024

The Summit Peak is the newest pearl symmetrical ball from Storm. If you know Storm, you know this is thier bread and butter! The Summit Peak gives me a clean, smooth ball that still tips enough downlane to provided a great transition piece on flatter conditions, while also being a great league ball on most house shots. This ball is the return of a shape we got out of balls like the Axiom Pearl and original Trend, but the latest version uses A.I. core technology. This new Storm tech makes the ball rev up quicker while still keeping its axis and continuing downlane. This combines control and dynamic ball motion in a way we haven't seen from Storm until this year, and the result is a reliable shape that never misses the midlane and also still hooks plenty downlane!

    Summit Peak

Storm Summit Peak: Ball specs: Centripetal™ HD - A.I. with TX-23 Reactive Pearl coverstock Finished: Reacta Gloss from factory Layout: 4 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 2 7/8 Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down A.I. technology is pushing the boundaries of RG like never seen in Storm’s history, and just as you thought Storm has reached the SUMMIT; Storm has reached the PEAK with the all new Storm Summit Peak. The Summit Peak was one of the first 3 balls I drilled since switching back to 15lbs earlier this month. The factory finish of Reacta Gloss went a smidge longer than my eyes like to see during warm ups and practice time. Similar of pearls released with Reacta Gloss, I took it into the pro shop and put it into the Haus machine and used Vise’s 500 grit pads for 1 minute then applied all new Storm Smooth edge and the reaction in the mid lane and backend became a tick earlier like my eyes like to see. Overall, I was able to play over and around the normal track area at ABC North on the left side of the lanes. I was able to stay between the 2 down lane markers and adjust my starting point to provide consistent shots to the pocket. Only left a few corner pins and one 8 pin, which is much better than my normal carry at ABC North with symmetrical hybrid and pearl balls like the Hyped Pearl, TnT Infused, and Sublime, which are my 1st out of the bag stuff. The Peak has definitely earned a spot in my league bag after using it several different days on fresh and heavily used lanes. See your local PSO for the new Summit Peak, or watch for a Storm Matchmaker Live event near you, and visit Storm’s YouTube page for all the recent ball releases and a TON of information about the sport of bowling.

Storm Summit Peak review by Lonnie Pemberton

LANE CONDITION Length:43 Volume: Med-High Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS COMMENTS COVERSTOCK: TX-23 Pearl Reactive WEIGHT BLOCK: Centripetal™ HD - A.I. FACTORY FINISH: Reacta Gloss RG: 2.46 (15 lb) Differential: 0.056 (15 lb) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 Axis Tilt: 14° Axis Rotation: 74° PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin Over Middle Finger 5 1/2 X 4 1/2 X 3 VLS The success and popularity of the AI core technology featured in the original Summit left little doubt that a pearl version would be coming down the line and Storm didn't disappoint. The new Master line release is called the Summit Peak. A pearl version of the TX - 23, and advancement of the TX-16 cover featured on the Phaze II, wraps this one up. I tested the Summit Peak in league. The first week I opted to take it out game 3 when my solid balls were seeing to much of the front of the lane. I was pretty surprised with how smooth is ball was. While it is certainly cleaner than the original Summit was, I feel that this core so dominates the motion of this ball, that it tended to tip up pretty fast. Even with the longer pin buffer I opted for, the ball seemed to get forward pretty fast when trying to use it so late. I kept it in play by moving even deeper and really opening my angle up early, getting the ball to bounce off the friction earlier and sort of set at the pocket. It worked well enough for 220 or so but I felt like I was having to really manipulate the reaction to get the ball through the pins. I decided to try throwing the Summit Peak on the fresh the next week. I much preferred it in this role, in spite of its Pearl Cover the ball read the mid-lane very well even on the fresh and controlled the back-end reaction really well. This may not be a typical reaction for bowlers with more ball speed than me, or who bowl in centers where the fronts don't hook so much. I think the summit peak will work out well as a transition ball for bowlers who really liked the original summit. It also makes a good alternative for a first ball out for people like me who want a sort of "solid" reaction from a ball that doesn't necessarily give them the early solid-type read on the lane. Storm Summit Peak Ball Review Layout VLS-5.25x4x2.25 Dual Angle-50x5.25x32 Surface-Storm Reacta Gloss Storm Summit Peak will be a great addition to the master series. It will be a great compliment to the orginal Summit with increased length and a stronger backend motion. So when you feel like the orginal summit or Phaze 2 is reading the lane too early the summit peak will be a great option. Summit peak for me will be a great transition ball when I need more length and a stronger backend motion.

I'm glad Storm elected to go with the pearl version of the Summit as the original was too strong to utilize on most conditions. I have thrown the peak a bunch already and am a fan of what I seen, as I been looking for more versatility for a medium benchmark pearl to utilize when my other balls become too smooth and slow. The peak is the strongest symmetrical pearl in my bag and I will look at this as a step up from the Xponent pearl when I need a stronger mid lane read than the cleaner/angular pearls. I believe this will be a great option for most bowlers to capture that step down off the bigger asymmetrical and symmetrical solids.

    Clean and Strong

Posted by Steven Collins on Jan 27th 2024

Dual Angle Layout: 45 x 4 ½ x 30 Storm Vector Layout: 4 ½ x 3 7/8 x 1 7/8 Summit Peak is another great Symmetrical Pearl from the SPI brand. This ball is super clean and responsive down lane. When you need a ball to get left and know its going to recover then this is the ball for you. On the fresh it was a little too angular for me but when the lanes start to transition, and I have to move left this ball starts to really shine. A great 1-2 combo between the Summit and the Peak.

    Summit Peak!

Posted by Josh Shoemaker on Jan 24th 2024

The Storm Summit Peak is the newest release in the Summit line. The Summit Peak features the same Centripetal HD found in the original Summit but is now wrapped in TX-23 pearl. The Summit Peak is the perfect complement to the Summit. The Summit Peak preserves all the traction the OG provided but moves it a zone farther down the lane. The Summit Peak has been my go to 3 ball in league/tournaments and is the perfect ball before my UFO Alert/Hyroad. Review Video:  https://youtu.be/_kGz4ow_Kro?si=9s7lRbIrps7dj3OT

    Storm Summit Peak Review

Posted by Tobias Myers on Jan 24th 2024

The Summit Peak is one of the new balls in the Storm line. The Peak features the TX-23 pearl cover and the Centripetal HD inside the A.I. core. This is the second ball in the Summit line with the original Summit being the first. This ball was stronger than expected, clean through the fronts, and plenty of pop down lane. It gives you the skid flip motion from a Storm ball. I compared it to the original Summit and the peak is much cleaner/longer down lane and quick off the spot. The original Summit reads the middle part of the lane earlier and controls the lane front to back. The Peak will be a great option for when the Summit is reading the lanes earlier and you are needing a ball to get down the lanes. Another great addition to the Storm lineup! The Summit Peak is our new Zen! The Summit Peak has the TX-23 Pearl Coverstock along with the Centripetal Core. Compared to the original Summit, the Summit Peak is cleaner but the strong cover makes it very predictable and controllable shape. Very clean through the front with a lot of backend motion!
