Diff.: 0.042 Finish: Power Edge Fragrance: Grape Punch Storm’s new Typhoon is a Pearl Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Dry Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a Fresh 43’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Road Warrior. Road Warrior was 4-4 left of the Typhoon. Road Warrior has a sharper backend motion. The Typhoon fits between the Road Warrior and the Tropical Surge Midnight. This piece will be good for all types of styles. The new Storm Typhoon features the Reactor Pearl Reactive cover, Atmos A.I. Core, and Power Edge finish. This is the newest ball in the hot line and it's been a minute since we have seen a ball in the hot line. This ball has a RG of 2.53 and diff of 0.042 which we have not seen these numbers on a ball in a while. This ball will sit towards the bottom of the bag but is also going to be stronger than expected being in the hot line. This ball will be in the IQ Ruby and Road Warrior range strength wise but a touch cleaner with more backend than both of them. This will be a good ball when the lanes break down and you need the cleaner option to get down the lane but still have enough to get back. This is another fantastic release from Storm! This core will provide a more predictable shape for your arsenal at the end of the pattern. As A.I. core technology has advanced that means a few extra percentage points of carry can be anticipated. The newest of SPI releases with A.I. have performed exceptionally well and we feel the Typhoon is going to be sneaky good. For my review, I compared the Typhoon to the Road Warrior. For me, the Road Warrior cover/combination is very good. The Typhoon is very similar to the Road Warrior but the Typhoon has a touch more length and not as quick to change directions. This can be very valuable when control is key. I recommend a player use both types of balls on medium/dry lanes and see how your bowling eyes adapt to transition. The Road Warrior has R2S Deep which is something I already really like in the arsenal. I think the Typhoon is going to compliment the Road Warrior very well moving forward. The Typhoon bonus is that it is finished with Power Edge compared to Reacta Gloss which has not been used for awhile. I am pleasantly surprised how the OOB finish looks on the Typhoon and will test even further before changing the surface. As noted above, the Typhoon will fit well for your medium/medium dry type THS patterns. SPI has really upgraded the lower end of the arsenal with the Typhoon. Review by Nicholas Hogan on the Typhoon Alright, they claim this has all the makings to be like the old Tropical Heats, one of my favorite balls all time from Storm. Checkmark one: Good low price point! Checkmark two: Over perform that price point! Checkmark three: Strike a lot! Honestly my first shot with this ball besides a few in practice during league was game 3 in league...moved left threw it out the window a little and expected it to not recover, and this ball said "nope I got you" turned left and flushed it. I drilled mine 5 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 2 3/4 which essentially puts the pin directly above my bridge. The Typhoon out performs the price its being sold at and it definitely reminds me of the Tropical Heats from way back when, so if you miss that shape this is an easy choice to pick up as a replacement. It has been a while since we have seen a ball in the Hot Line and the Typhoon does not disappoint. I was a huge fan of the Tropical Heat and that’s where Storm found the inspiration to design the Atmos A.I. core which has been combined with the Reactor Pearl cover. The Typhoon provides length through the front part of the lane with a controlled and consistent back end reaction that can help bowlers of all styles. The Typhoon gave me a good look sliding on 22, looking 13 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 6-7. I was able to move further left by decreasing my ball speed and it continued to look great. When compared to The Road Warrior, the Typhoon was a couple boards weaker and had a smoother back end reaction. The Typhoon may not be the first ball out of my bag for league or tournaments, but I can see it being very useful for lower speed players or high rev players later in blocks or when the lanes are really hooking. The layout on my Typhoon is 50 x 4 1/2 x 40. I was looking for a ball motion I can predict and rely on when the lanes get drier during the transition or on high friction lane surfaces. I have actually found the ball in this Storm Typhoon! For my lower ball speed and tilt, this ball matches up with me very well with me. I can use the Typhoon for straighter angles with more end-over-end roll, and I can play a little more left to right with side rotation to create the perfect consistency of hook and roll. It gives me “HyRoad Pearl” vibes (especially with the scent), so I definitely have found my replacement. This Typhoon is the first ball in the “Hot” line since the Electrify series, but I’m excited to throw this ball on the typical house shots.
